Guwahati: A new Guinness World Record for the “biggest display of oil lights” was established when more than 15.76 lakh earthen lamps were lit at the “Ram ki Paidi” during the Yogi government’s Deepotsav celebrations in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on the eve of Diwali.
The record was made in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This historic event was seen by thousands of followers, members of the public, and dignitaries.
The record was largely produced with help from Awadh University, Ayodhya’s faculty and students. As soon as the PM declared the festival to be open, more than 15.76 lakh clay lamps were lit one by one while people chanted “Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram.”
The entire city of Ayodhya erupted in “Jai Shri Ram” cries when the Guinness Book of World Records representatives announced the creation of the record. The certificate was given to the Chief Minister, and the Prime Minister praised him for his accomplishment.
Notably, 1.71 lakh lights were lit in 2017, the first Deepotsav in Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi Adityanath administration. The number has been steadily rising ever since, reaching 3.01 lakh in 2018, 4.04 lakh in 2019, 6.06 lakh in 2020, and 9.41 lakh in 2021.
