Baloch Liberation Army Claims Deadly IED Attack on Pakistani Army Convoy Near Quetta
Quetta — The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a deadly ambush targeting a Pakistani Army convoy in the Margat area near Quetta, escalating tensions in the insurgency-hit Balochistan province.
According to a statement issued by BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the attack was carried out using a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED), which destroyed a military vehicle and killed ten Pakistani soldiers on the spot. The group described the assault as part of its “ongoing resistance” against what it calls “occupying forces” in Balochistan.
The incident marks another high-profile strike by the BLA, coming weeks after the group hijacked the Jaffar Express in the Bolan district. That operation ended in a bloodbath, with 25 people killed following detonations along the railway tracks, derailing multiple coaches and partially burying the engine inside a tunnel. During that siege, 339 passengers were taken hostage, drawing nationwide attention and condemnation.
While Pakistani security officials have not yet released an official statement on the latest IED attack, sources confirm that an investigation has been launched. The strike underscores the persistent threat posed by separatist groups in the region and raises fresh concerns over the safety of both military convoys and civilian infrastructure in Balochistan.
