International Desk, 23rd March: Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, the director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), has emphasized the significant economic benefits expected from the launch of the Integrated Checkpost (ICP) in Ramgarh, Khagrachari. Addressing journalists at the Ramgarh BGB memorial area on Friday, March 22, Siddiqui highlighted the positive impact of the ICP on both Bangladesh and India’s economies.
Siddiqui underscored the international interest in the project, noting investments from countries like Japan on both sides of the ICP. He expressed optimism that the launch of the ICP would catalyze economic growth, boosting trade and commerce between the two nations.
During his visit, Siddiqui inspected various key locations, including the battalion headquarters of Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB), the Ramgarh land port adjacent to the ICP, the Indo-Bangladesh friendship bridge area, and the BGB monument. He expressed confidence in the Prime Minister’s directives to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Discussing security measures at the Ramgarh Land Port, Siddiqui highlighted its strategic significance and its proximity to the Chittagong port, emphasizing its role in facilitating mutual trade. Responding to inquiries, he confirmed that 177 BGP members from Myanmar are currently being accommodated in Bangladesh, with efforts underway for their repatriation.
Additionally, Siddiqui took the opportunity to distribute essential food items to 250 needy families in the border area during his visit. The event was attended by other officials, including the Additional Director General of BGB Headquarters, the Region Commander of Chittagong Region, the Guimara Sector Commander, and the Captain of Ramgarh Battalion.
