Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Arrives in India on Four-day Visit

Guwahati: The four-day visit of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India began on Monday.

Upgrading defence cooperation, extending regional connectivity projects, and establishing stability in South Asia are the top issues on the agenda.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister will meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and President Droupadi Murmu during her visit. Additionally, she will meet privately with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Hasina will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar while she is in New Delhi. She is making her first trip since the bilateral relations between the two countries reached their 50th anniversary in 2021.

Over the past few years, India and Bangladesh have worked to revive a number of connectivity efforts while also attempting to establish a model for regional cooperation. Akhaura-Agartala rail service is expected to resume soon, and within a few weeks, air service between Agartala and Chittagong is planned.

During Hasina’s visit, the two parties are anticipated to sign a deal on the temporary sharing of water from the Kushiyara River. The famed Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti’s Dargah is located in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and the Bangladeshi PM is likely to visit there.
