Banned ULFA-I ‘executes’ 2 cadres including one woman in Assam on charges of spying for police

Guwahati, 3rd October: The banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has carried out the execution of two more of its members, including a female cadre, on Monday, alleging their involvement in spying for Assam Police.

The two deceased ULFA-I members have been identified as Lachit Hazarika, also known as Salim Ali, and Barnali Axom, also known as Nayanmoni Chetia.

Salim Ali, a resident of Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district of Assam, was a senior member of ULFA-I and a prime suspect in the notorious Dhemaji Bomb Blast incident of 2004. He had been on the run since then.

Confirmation of the execution of these two individuals came from ULFA-I members who were apprehended by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh police in Tirap district yesterday. During the apprehension, security forces discovered a 0.32 MM pistol and a 9MM pistol in their possession.

The two apprehended ULFA-I members have been identified as Manjit Gogoi, also known as Nilotpal Axom, and Rohini Gogoi, also known as Upen Axom.

In a separate development, Nayanmoni Chetia, who hailed from Tinsukia, had reportedly joined the outlawed faction last year along with two other associates.

It may also be mentioned that there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding the death penalty for these two ULFA-I members as of now.
