Barsapara Stadium Shortlisted for the Upcoming 2023 Cricket World Cup

Guwahati: Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati is on the short list to host the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

According to reports, the 2023 Cricket World Cup final will take place in the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19 in Ahmedabad. This announcement was made by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

48 matches will be played over 46 days during the event which will begin on October 5 and be held in 12 cities across India.

The cities include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai.

With a capacity of 130,000 the Narendra Modi Stadium will host the final of the Cricket World Cup joining the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 1987 and the Wankede Stadium in Mumbai in 2011.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secured a tax exemption and immigration clearance for the Pakistan cricket team which caused the announcement to be delayed.

Normally, the ICC releases the World Cup schedule a year in advance but this time the delay prevented the ICC from doing so.

Reportedly, the venue in Guwahati for the Cricket World Cup is the Barsapara Stadium (ACA Stadium).

The stadium which can accommodate 25,000 people was constructed in 2017.  It is the home ground for the Assam cricket team and the Northeast Frontier Railway cricket team.

Also, it serves as the venue for Indian Premier League games. The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has authorised the venue to host international cricket matches.
