Basar MLA Initiates 20 Crore Road Project to Boost Connectivity and Economy in Arunachal Pradesh

Northeast Desk, 19th February: In a bid to enhance connectivity and foster economic development, villages under the Sago Circle of Leparada District in Arunachal Pradesh are poised to receive a widened, quality road worth 20 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The initiative, spearheaded by the young MLA of Basar, aims to uplift the region’s infrastructure and facilitate smoother transportation for its residents.

Sago Circle, situated within the Basar Assembly constituency, lies approximately 18 kilometers away from the nearest town, Basar. Renowned for its agricultural and horticultural produce, including kiwi, plum, and various types of apples and oranges, the region holds immense potential for economic growth and prosperity.

Leparada District, with its administrative headquarters in Basar, is a pivotal region in Arunachal Pradesh, falling under the 29-Basar Assembly Constituency and 1-West Parliamentary Constituency. Comprising four administrative circles—Basar, Tirbin, Dari, and Sago—the district’s strategic location earned it the name “Lepa Rada,” signifying its central position akin to a bulls-eye in archery.

Executive Engineer of PWD Basar Division, D Kato, revealed that the road project, funded through RIDF Nabard loan, received government approval of 20 crores four months ago. M/s D Riba, the winning firm, commenced work on the project in December 2023, with an anticipated completion time of two years. The road, spanning 9.10 kilometers, aims to address the transportation challenges faced by over 2000 residents of Sago Circle, enabling easier access to essential services and reducing transportation costs for goods.

MLA Gokar Basar, reflecting on his childhood memories and the significance of the project, emphasized the transformative impact of the widened road on the region’s tourism potential and economy. Highlighting the mesmerizing waterfall in Hipo village and the area’s rich horticultural resources, Basar envisioned the road as a catalyst for promoting eco-tourism and facilitating the export of local produce to domestic and international markets.

With the active involvement of local leadership and the formation of a joint monitoring committee to oversee construction challenges, the project represents a collaborative effort to improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth in the region. As the road project progresses, it promises to unlock new opportunities and elevate the socio-economic landscape of Sago Circle and its surrounding areas.
