Beef Ban Enforcement Tightens: Major Raids Net 20kg of Contraband in Kokrajhar District

Kokrajhar – In a significant crackdown against the sale of beef, Kokrajhar police have seized approximately 20 kilograms of the prohibited meat and detained five individuals across the district in a series of coordinated raids. The operations, spearheaded by Additional Superintendent of Police Navanita Sharma, targeted multiple eateries allegedly flouting regulations concerning beef sales.

The primary operation unfolded along Masjid Road in central Kokrajhar, where authorities, acting on a credible tip-off, raided four establishments: Muslim Hotel, Amir Hotel, Alif Hotel, and Dadaji Hotel. These hotels had reportedly been engaged in the illicit sale of beef for a considerable duration. During the raid, around 10 kilograms of beef were confiscated. While the proprietor of Muslim Hotel, Rezzakul Islam alias Bachchu, remains at large, the owners of the other three establishments—Amir Hussain of Amir Hotel, Mofiz Ali of Alif Hotel, and Majnur Rahman of Dadaji Hotel—were identified. Four individuals linked to these raids were subsequently detained and are currently undergoing interrogation at the Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station.

Simultaneously, a separate yet connected operation in Fakiragram yielded further results. Police recovered an additional 10 kilograms of beef, comprising both cooked and raw meat, from Islam Hotel, situated near the railway gate. Aijul Haque, the owner of Islam Hotel, was detained by Fakiragram police for questioning in connection with the seizure.

Kokrajhar Police sources have indicated that these recent actions are part of a wider, ongoing enforcement drive. The crackdown has reportedly extended to other areas within the district, including Joypur, signalling a sustained effort to curb the sale and distribution of beef in the region.
