Bengaluru: Bomb Threats Target 28 Schools, Prompting Evacuations and Police Investigations

National Desk, 1st December: Panic spread across Bengaluru as 28 schools received bomb threats through anonymous emails on Friday. The initial wave of threats targeted seven schools, including Napel and Vidyashilpa in Basaveshwar Nagar, with subsequent threats extending to more educational institutions. Despite indications of potential hoaxes, Bengaluru Police evacuated students and staff from the schools, conducting thorough searches with Bomb Disposal Squads. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed police to investigate the matter, emphasizing enhanced security measures.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Bengaluru Police Commissioner mentioned, “Certain schools in Bengaluru city have received emails today morning indicating ‘bomb threat.’ Anti-sabotage and bomb detection squads have been pressed into service to verify and ascertain. The calls seem to be a hoax. Even then, all efforts will be made to trace the culprits.” Last year, similar email threats targeted private schools in Bengaluru, ultimately proven to be hoaxes.
