Bengaluru Gears Up for Grand Two-Day Rongali Bihu Extravaganza

Guwahati: The Assam Society of Bangalore (ASOB), a cornerstone of the Assamese community in Karnataka’s capital since its inception in 1982, is poised to deliver an unprecedented two-day spectacle of Assamese culture with its 24th Annual Rongali Bihu Celebration.

The vibrant festival, marking the arrival of spring and embodying the spirit of unity, is set to unfold on April 12th and 13th at the Freedom International School Ground in HSR Layout.

In a significant departure from previous years, ASOB will extend the festivities over two full days, commencing at 11 AM each day. Organizers anticipate a massive turnout, expecting between 8,000 and 10,000 attendees across the two days. The grand event aims to showcase the rich tapestry of Assamese traditions to a diverse audience, including the substantial diaspora of approximately 2 to 3 lakh Assamese individuals currently residing and working or pursuing education in Bengaluru and its surrounding areas.

This year’s celebration boasts an impressive lineup of acclaimed Assamese artists, promising unforgettable entertainment for attendees. On Saturday, April 12th, the legendary Zubeen Garg is scheduled to captivate the audience with a live performance. The festivities will continue on Sunday, April 13th, with electrifying performances by Achurjya Borpatra and Harpal Saikia.

Beyond the musical performances, the two-day event will feature a diverse array of cultural attractions designed to immerse attendees in the essence of Assam. In a first for the organization, ASOB will host a Mega Children’s Art Competition at Lawrence High School in HSR Layout. Simultaneously, a Book Festival celebrating the rich literary heritage of Assam and the Northeast region will take place. Adding to the cultural immersion will be traditional Bihu dance competitions, exhibitions showcasing the intricate artistry of regional crafts, and a vibrant food festival offering a delectable array of authentic Assamese cuisine.

This 24th edition of the Rongali Bihu celebration holds special significance as it marks the commencement of the countdown to ASOB’s 25th anniversary Bihu celebration next year. To commemorate this upcoming milestone, distinguished guests from Assam will be present to officially inaugurate the countdown during the event, unveiling initial plans for the highly anticipated Silver Jubilee edition.

Rongali Bihu, deeply rooted in Assam’s agrarian traditions, transcends its role as a spring festival, serving as a powerful expression of Assamese identity, unity, and collective joy. Its inclusive nature welcomes participation from all communities, fostering a sense of belonging and shared celebration. In the cosmopolitan city of Bengaluru, the festival acts as a vital cultural bridge, promoting cross-cultural understanding and a shared appreciation for Assam’s rich artistic, literary, and culinary heritage. The festivities will take place on April 12th and 13th, 2025, at the Freedom International School Ground in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, commencing from 11:00 AM onwards. The Mega Children’s Art Competition will be held at Lawrence High School, HSR Layout.
