Bengaluru Woman Apprehended in Gujarat ATS Terror Probe
Bengaluru: In a significant development, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 30-year-old woman in Bengaluru for her alleged ties to the Al Qaeda terror network. The woman, identified as Sama Parveen, was taken into custody on Wednesday, officials confirmed, linking her apprehension to a broader investigation into the banned outfit.
Parveen’s arrest follows closely on the heels of four men being apprehended last week across multiple states on July 23, all suspected of being associated with Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The earlier arrests included Mohd Faiq from Delhi, Mohd Fardeer from Ahmedabad, Sefullah Kureshi from Modasa in Gujarat’s Aravalli district, and Zishan Ali from Noida. These individuals had reportedly been under surveillance for their suspected involvement with the proscribed terror group.
Sunil Joshi, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gujarat ATS, stated that Parveen’s detention is directly connected to the previous arrests. He affirmed that the operation stemmed from actionable intelligence and sustained surveillance efforts. While specific details regarding Parveen’s precise role within the network remain undisclosed at this juncture, authorities indicated that further information would be released as the ongoing investigation into the wider terror network progresses.
