‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ to Return to Cinemas on July 18 to Celebrate a Decade of Legacy
Entertainment: Farhan Akhtar-starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the acclaimed biopic on legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, is set for a theatrical re-release on July 18 — ten years after it first hit the big screen.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film immortalised the inspiring journey of Milkha Singh, known as The Flying Sikh, who rose from the trauma of Partition to become one of India’s most celebrated athletes, winning accolades at the Asian and Commonwealth Games.
The re-release is being hailed not just as a nostalgic moment for fans, but a tribute to a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
“Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a very special film for me; it felt personal, a tribute to the indomitable spirit of a man who turned pain into purpose,” said Mehra. “Even today, the film continues to inspire, and that’s the legacy we hoped to honour.”
Farhan Akhtar, whose portrayal of Milkha Singh was widely lauded, expressed his excitement about the re-release: “It was one of the most transformative journeys of my life. Portraying Milkha Singh—a man whose story is etched in the soul of our nation—was both an honour and a responsibility.”
Sonam Kapoor, who played a supporting role in the film, echoed the sentiment: “Watching it again is not just nostalgic—it’s a tribute to Milkha Singh ji’s extraordinary legacy and a celebration of the timeless magic of cinema.”
Divya Dutta and Prakash Raj also delivered memorable performances in the film, which won several awards and struck an emotional chord with audiences across the country.
The re-release is expected to rekindle national pride and bring younger audiences closer to one of India’s most iconic sports figures, through a cinematic experience that blends grit, emotion and inspiration.
