Guwahati: Officials of the district Childline with support of Nagaon police on Saturday foiled a bid to marry off a minor girl of Bherbheri hamlet in Batadrav.
According to reports, the minor girl’s and boy’s families covertly planned their marriage.
Following a tip-off, Nagaon police and district Childline rushed to the spot and apprehended the minor girl after a 3-kilometer chase.
However, the boy (groom) fled from the spot.
Reportedly, the rescued underage girl was handed up to Childline.
It needs to be mentioned that the underage girl is said to be from Sonari village in the Dhing constituency, while the boy is from Bherbheri village in the Batadrava constituency.
