Big Blow to Congress in Poll Ahead Gujarat: Hartik Patel quits Congress
Guwahati: Gujarat Congress Leader Hardik Patel quit the party on Wednesday after days of speculation about his future.
Patel, the functioning president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, did not attend the Congress’ senior brass’ three-day brainstorming session in Udaipur.
Patel later visited with Naresh Patel, a powerful Patidar leader and asked him to make a decision on joining politics as soon as possible.
According to reports, Patel was turned off by the fact that fellow Congress politician Jignesh Mevani received a lot of attention and support after being arrested by Assam Police. When Patel was attacked during the Patidar agitation, he did not receive as much backing from the party.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old leader has been at conflict with the Congress’s state unit, publicly criticising the leaders for refusing to let him and other youth leaders to function in the party structure.
Meanwhile, speculations linking Patel to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat have sparked worry about his future.
Patel took to Twitter and stated in Hindi, “”Today with great courage, I have submitted my resignation from the Congress party and its membership. I hope that all my well-wishers and the people of Gujarat will support me in this decision.”
“I believe that from now on, I will be able to work for Gujarat in productive way,” he added.
pic.twitter.com/MG32gjrMiY
