Big Drug Haul: NCB and Assam Rifles Net Rs 36.79 Crore Contraband in Mizoram
In a significant crackdown on illicit narcotics, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in a collaborative operation with the Assam Rifles, has intercepted a massive consignment of heroin and methamphetamine tablets valued at an estimated Rs 36.79 crore in Champhai district, eastern Mizoram.
Officials, acting on precise intelligence, mounted a joint operation on Thursday. Their efforts culminated in the recovery of 642 grams of heroin and a substantial 10.44 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets, a highly addictive stimulant often referred to as ‘ice’ or ‘crystal meth’ due to its powerful euphoric effects.
The seized contraband has since been handed over to the NCB, with further investigations actively underway. This latest success follows another notable seizure earlier this month in the same district, where the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police apprehended a Myanmar national and recovered methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 6.67 crore from Zokhawthar village on June 29, highlighting the persistent efforts against drug trafficking in the region.
