Bihar: 3 Assam Rifles jawans deployed for election duty drown in river in Samastipur
National Desk, 15th May: In a heartbreaking incident, three Assam Rifles jawans, assigned to election duty in Bihar’s Samastipur for the Lok Sabha elections, met a tragic end on Tuesday, May 14, when they drowned in a nearby river.
The unfortunate event occurred after the completion of election procedures, as the trio engaged in routine activities, ventured into the waters of a nearby river for a bath. However, they soon found themselves overwhelmed by the currents, leading to a desperate struggle for survival.
Swift action by local residents proved crucial, as they courageously intervened to rescue two of the jawans from the perilous waters. Despite their efforts, the third jawan remains missing, prompting an urgent search operation in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Vikas Pandey, serving as the sub-divisional officer of Patori, provided insights into the tragic incident, stating, “An unfortunate incident took place after the election procedure was completed where three soldiers started drowning in a river when they had to take a bath.” He continued, “The locals saved two of the jawans. The body of the third jawan is being searched with the help of SDRF.”
The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by personnel serving on election duty, highlighting the need for heightened safety measures and vigilance during such critical assignments.
