Bihar: Galwan martyr’s father Held for allegedly constructing memorial on neighbour’s land
Guwahati: The father of an army soldier who lost his life fighting Chinese troops in Galwan Valley in 2020 was arrested by Bihar Police on February 28 for erecting a memorial in his son’s honour “illegally” in a village in the Vaishali district of Bihar.
The father, a martyr named Jai Kishore Singh, is seen being dragged by the police and transported to a police station in the middle of the night on Saturday, according to CCTV footage that has gone viral on social media.
On February 24 of last year, in their village of Kajri Buzurg, which is located under the Jandaha police station in the Vaishali district, Singh’s father built a memorial in honour of his son.
According to reports, several members of the local government attended the ceremony to inaugurate the memorial.
The family ran into difficulties in December of last year when their neighbour, Harinath Ram, objected to them building a wall around the bust.
The neighbour claimed that because the memorial was built on ground that belonged to him and prevented him from getting to his house, the martyr’s father had broken the terms of a contract by which he was meant to purchase a plot of land for him elsewhere.
The father was ultimately caught following the filing of a case accusing the father of breaking Sections 188, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC as well as several Sections of the SC/ST Act.
”I was asked by the Police to remove the memorial within 15 days. After that, the local police came to the house and apprehended my father and then took him away and thrashed him,” said Nand Kishore Singh, brother of Jai Kishore Singh.
Speaking over the matter, Poonam Kesari, DSP Mahua said that the complainant, in this case, claimed that following the construction of the memorial, his movement was blocked to his house.
”Based on the complaint, the father, the martyr, has been apprehended,” she added.
