BJP ally IPFT MLA resigns from Tripura Assembly
Guwahati: Yet another setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura after legislator of the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), Dhananjoy Tripura resigned from the state assembly on Friday.
This occurs just a few months before of the state’s upcoming assembly elections, which will take place in 2019.
Dhananjoy Tripura cited “personal reasons” for his resignation.
He was seen accompanied by royal scion and head of TIPRA Motha party Pradyot Kishore Debbarma while submitting his resignation. Tripura won the 2018 assembly elections in the Dhalai district’s Raimavalley constituency.
IPFT is a supporter of Tripura’s governing NDA.
Raima Valley is represented by Dhananjoy Tripura in the Dhalai district. IPFT’s strength fell from eight to six after Tripura’s departure.
