BJP Announces Rajya Sabha Candidates; JP Nadda to Contest from Gujarat
National Desk, 14th February: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated party chief JP Nadda as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat, despite lacking the necessary strength to secure victory in the Congress-ruled state. Nadda, currently a Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh, will now vie for a seat in Gujarat.
Additionally, the BJP has named Ashok Chavan, a former Congress member who recently joined the party, as its candidate from Maharashtra. Chavan’s candidacy follows the exits of prominent Maharashtra Congress figures Baba Siddique and Milind Deora, who joined other political parties.
The BJP’s central election committee has approved a total of four candidates from Gujarat, including Govindbhai Dholakia, Mayankbhai Nayak, and Dr. Jashvantsinh Parmar. From Maharashtra, the party has nominated Medha Kulkarni and Dr. Ajit Gopchhade.
These announcements mark the BJP’s strategic moves ahead of the upcoming biennial elections for the upper house, aiming to strengthen its representation in key states like Gujarat and Maharashtra.
