BJP demands Meghalaya CM’s resignation

Guwahati: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya has asked that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma resign due to allegations of corruption.

The BJP’s demand comes in the wake of the dome of the state’s under-construction legislative building in New Shillong Township collapsing.

Notably, the BJP is a component of the NPP-led MDA government in Meghalaya.

“Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma should resign. He has failed to fight corruption,” stated Meghalaya BJP deputy president Bernard Marak.

Marak further claimed that the “BJP approved” Conrad Sangma’s nomination as Meghalaya’s chief minister, predicting “excellent governance and all-round growth of the state with zero corruption.”

“Everyone is dissatisfied because the poor have remained poor and the weak have died, particularly the youths who are stranded without work,” he added.

The Meghalaya BJP has challenged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to order a CBI investigation into the collapse of the dome of the state’s under-construction legislative building in New Shillong Township.

People are unhappy and have lost faith in Conrad Sangma, according to Marak, who wants him to resign and accept moral responsibility for failing to combat corruption.

Meanwhile, the chief minister inspected the fallen dome site on Tuesday. CM Sangma in a tweet said, “After the inspection on-site at the New Assembly Building, a High-Power Committee meeting was held today. A Third-Party Audit will investigate the matter concerning the collapse of the dome.”
