BJP demands strict action against Punjab Government
Guwahati: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marched and demonstrated in various areas of north Karnataka on Friday, alleging that the Congress-led Punjab government had failed to provide protection to the Prime Minister.
They accused the Punjab government of putting the Prime Minister’s life at jeopardy for political gain, and asked that the Congress-led government be sacked. The protest marches took place in the midst of the State Government’s COVID-19 protocol-imposed ban on all types of protests and processions.
Meanwhile, they said that 5th January will be remembered in the Indian history as a “Black Day” where the entire state machinery was used to make a mockery of the Prime Minister’s security.
In Hubballi, members of the BJP Youth Wing staged a sham funeral procession for Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from ESI Hospital to the Congress’s Karwar Road office. Dattamurthy Kulkarni, the BJP’s district general secretary, claimed that the Punjab government blocked the Prime Minister from launching development programmers by staging a farmers’ protest.
However, the police intercepted the demonstrators as they attempted to lay siege to the Congress office, culminating in a lengthy altercation between the two parties. Their attempt to blacken the Congress office premises was also stopped by the police. After the effigy was burned, the demonstrators dispersed.
It may be noted that a demonstration was also conducted in Dharwad to demand the implementation of President’s Rule in Punjab. Sanjay Kapatkarm, the recently elected president of the Dharwad Urban District Unit, former MLA Seema Masuti, and others led the agitation, condemning the Punjab Government’s “security failings.”
Furthermore, BJP workers led by local office-bearers conducted rallies in Gadag, Belagavi, Haveri, and other districts, demanding action against the Punjab government and alleging that the Prime Minister was forced to return midway for political reasons.
