Northeast Desk, 16th October: Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, is currently on a two-day visit to Mizoram, a state heading into elections. During a rally in Mizoram, he criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of undermining the unity of Manipur by dividing it into two parts.
Gandhi strongly condemned what he perceives as the ruling government’s promotion of violence throughout the nation. He argued that the BJP’s actions have led to the disintegration of the idea of Manipur, effectively turning it into two separate states. He also criticized Prime Minister Modi for focusing on international affairs, particularly Israel, while neglecting the troubles in Manipur.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of India’s unity, diversity, and the values it stands for. He expressed concern over the deterioration of the situation in Manipur, where violence has taken a toll on the population, yet the Prime Minister hasn’t visited the state to address these issues.
Gandhi recalled the transformation of Mizoram from a troubled region to a peaceful one when a peace accord was signed, highlighting the need to preserve the idea of a united and tolerant India. He also raised concerns about the government’s approach toward minority groups, tribals, and dalits, noting that oppression and discomfort are prevalent.
Furthermore, Gandhi criticized the BJP for its alleged failure to address critical issues in Mizoram, such as the rampant spread of drugs among the youth, limited job creation, and poor infrastructure development. He accused the MNF of supporting the BJP in Delhi and contributing to the state’s economic woes.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mizoram included strong criticism of the BJP government, its handling of Manipur, and its focus on international matters over domestic concerns. He emphasized the importance of upholding the diverse and united values of India.
