BJP Firm on Seat Sharing Deal with NDPP in Nagaland Polls 2023

Guwahati: The BJP is steadfast in its seat-sharing deal with the governing NDPP for the next assembly elections, according to a senior member of the saffron party.

Prior to the 60-member House elections next year, the BJP and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) developed a pre-election seat-sharing arrangement.

According to the agreement, the saffron party will run for 20 seats and the NDPP for 40.

“We (the BJP and NDPP) are in the government, and our partnership is effective. The arrangement regarding seat sharing is complete. We want to once again serve the people of Nagaland “Nalin Kohli, the BJP’s national spokesperson and representative for Nagaland, said reporters.

When asked why the BJP did not think about running for more seats, he responded, “Our party has a track record of maintaining our pact. Although our partners might abandon us, we don’t have a history of doing so.”

When informed that, prior to the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP had broken off its alliance with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and teamed up with the NDPP, he responded, “Election season is unique. NPF also had a split.”
