BJP in Tripura Enrolls Over 12 Lakh Members During Membership Drive

Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has successfully enrolled nearly 12 lakh members as part of its two-month-long membership drive, which began on September 9.

The party, which had minimal representation in the state’s 60-member assembly before 2018, has significantly expanded its base with this campaign.

Bhagaban Das, the BJP’s membership in-charge and state unit general secretary, shared the milestone with PTI, stating that a total of 11.71 lakh members had been registered through both online and offline channels. He confirmed that the final number would exceed 12 lakh as data entry for offline enrollments continues. This is a significant jump from the 6.5 lakh members the party enrolled in 2019.

Das highlighted the success of the drive, especially in tribal-majority areas, where the BJP’s ally, Tipra Motha, holds legislative representation. The party’s goal is to enroll 70% of the 16 lakh electors who supported them in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Looking ahead, Das outlined the party’s plans to hold elections at various levels, including booth, mandal, and district, by December 30. These elections will lead to the selection of a new state president, as the current incumbent, Rajib Bhattacharjee, has become a Rajya Sabha MP. According to Das, the reconstitution of booth committees across approximately 20% of Tripura’s 3,349 booths has already been completed, with full reorganization expected by November 30. Mandal presidents are scheduled to be elected by December 15, followed by district presidents by December 30.
