BJP Leader Srijana Chettri Highlights Women’s Strength on International Women’s Day in Sikkim

GANGTOK: Srijana Chettri, executive member of the Sikkim BJP Mahila Morcha, delivered a powerful speech on International Women’s Day, underscoring the strength, resilience, and capabilities of women in society.

Addressing a gathering at the City Office in Gangtok, she challenged outdated perceptions and reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

Chettri pointed out that certain political parties in the past had doubted women’s ability to contest elections, but she emphasized that women have always been at the forefront of leadership and progress. “BJP has always believed in women’s empowerment. We are the women who give birth to men. We are never behind, and we must never step back,” she asserted.

Sharing an inspiring anecdote, she highlighted the selflessness of women, citing the example of a BJP leader’s wife who donated an organ to save her husband’s life. “Women are not weak. They are capable of achieving everything that men can—and even more,” she said.

She urged society to break free from gender stereotypes, questioning why people still associate women only with household roles. “India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, is a woman, and Delhi has a woman Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta. Why must people think that women only belong in the kitchen?” she asked.

Drawing from history, Chettri encouraged women to channel the fearlessness of Rani Lakshmibai and stand against injustice. “Women not only give birth but also have the strength and courage to fight against social evils. On this International Women’s Day, we must pledge to stand against oppression,” she added.

She also highlighted the BJP government’s initiatives for women, urging party workers to ensure that government schemes reach the intended beneficiaries. Programs like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Garib Awas Yojana), Ayushman Bharat health scheme, and district dialysis scheme have provided crucial support, especially to women battling serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer.

Encouraging grassroots efforts, she called upon BJP workers to spread awareness about these government initiatives, ensuring that women in rural areas receive the benefits they deserve. “We must work hard to make sure that every woman, especially from poor backgrounds, benefits from these schemes,” she emphasized.

Her address resonated with the audience, reinforcing the role of women as changemakers and the BJP’s ongoing efforts to foster gender equality and economic empowerment across Sikkim.
