BJP-Led NDA’s Presidential Candidate- Draupadi Murmu to Meet MPs, Legislators in Guwahati
Guwahati: NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is set to meet with MPs and lawmakers from the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) on Wednesday in order to gain support for the July 18 elections.
According to reports, she will meet the MPs and MLAs at a hotel in Guwahati.
Murmu was greeted by the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other members of the Assam cabinet at the Borjhar airport on Tuesday night.
The BJP has nine members in the Lok Sabha and four in the Rajya Sabha, compared to one each for the AGP and the UPPL in the Upper House. The present make-up of the 126-member Assam Assembly includes 78 legislators from the governing NDA, 62 from the BJP, nine from the AGP, and seven from the UPPL.
AIUDF chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal also declared that his party, which has 15 MLAs in the House would support Murmu.
Murmu will leave for Meghalaya in the afternoon.
