BJP Membership in Assam Surpasses 43 Lakh; Target Set for 50 Lakh by October 9
Guwahati, 25th September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has exceeded 43.67 lakh members in Assam, with a target of reaching 50 lakh by October 9, just before the Durga Puja festivities.
- The ongoing membership drive is being conducted across all 126 assembly segments in the state and is set to conclude on October 9.
- Each constituency has a target of enrolling 40,000 new members. If any segment fails to meet this goal, the party will resume efforts after the Durga Puja celebrations.
- Sarma emphasized that Assam contributes 10% to the BJP’s total national membership, highlighting the encouraging participation from constituencies held by allied parties AGP and UPPL.
- The membership campaign has been primarily executed online, with offline efforts planned for areas facing network issues.
In a post on his X handle, Sarma expressed pride in Assam’s contribution to the #BJPSadasyata2024 campaign and commended party workers for their hard work. He reiterated the commitment to fulfilling Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya’s vision of spreading the party’s ideology to every household.
The chief minister also noted that 18 lakh members registered last year, and the current drive aims to double that figure well ahead of schedule. Sarma renewed his own membership at a special program on September 3.
