BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi Directed to Apologise for Aggressive Conduct in Assam Legislative Assembly
Guwahati: BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has been instructed by Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia to issue a public apology to the people of Assam for his aggressive behaviour inside the state legislative assembly.
This directive comes after Kurmi attempted to physically charge at Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi during a heated discussion, disrupting proceedings and drawing widespread condemnation.
The incident, which occurred on March 21, has been criticised as a breach of parliamentary decorum and an affront to democratic discourse.
In response, the Assam BJP leadership swiftly intervened, with BJP State President Dilip Saikia expressing dismay over Kurmi’s actions in a strongly worded letter.
Saikia’s letter emphasized the BJP’s core values of discipline, restraint, and ideological integrity, stating that Kurmi’s conduct was contrary to the traditions of the Assembly.
Although Kurmi had already expressed regret within the Assembly, the BJP leadership deemed an additional public apology necessary to rectify the situation.
The incident has sparked intense political reactions, with opposition parties questioning the BJP’s commitment to democratic values.
As elections approach, the BJP’s move to enforce accountability within its ranks aims to contain damage and reinforce its image as a party of discipline and decorum.
