BJP nominates Sarbananda Sonowal as Rajya Sabha candidate
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Union Ports and AYUSH Minister and Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as one of its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.
The Former Assam Chief Minister was inducted in the Narendra Modi cabinet recently. At the time of induction, Sonowal was the legislator of the Majuli constituency but since he was inducted in the cabinet he had to resign from the legislator’s post. Following this, as per criteria, he had to be elected as a Member of Parliament within six months.
It may be mentioned that Sonowal has been nominated to a Rajya Sabha seat that has been lying vacant after the resignation of Biswajit Daimary.
The Election of Commission has announced Rajya Sabha polls for Assam, West Bengal. Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra will be held on October 4.
