Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh BJP today unleashed a formidable statewide protest, targeting integrated check posts and land customs stations dotting the Bangladesh border. The massive demonstration was a forceful condemnation of the recent vandalism and ransacking of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home in the neighbouring country. Tripura, it may be noted, shares an extensive 856-kilometre international border with Bangladesh.
Leading a spirited rally in Agartala, culminating near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post, BJP General Secretary and MLA Bhagaban Das minced no words in his criticism of the interim government in Bangladesh. He asserted that the current administration was fostering unrest within the country and had demonstrably failed in its duty to prevent such egregious attacks.
Das articulated the profound shock felt across Tripura and the nation at large over what he termed a “barbaric incident” – the desecration of Tagore’s ancestral abode. He vehemently condemned the “fascist and fundamentalist elements” in Bangladesh responsible for the attack, emphasising that Tagore represents not merely an emotion for Bengalis in India but for the people of undivided India as a whole. This assault, he stressed, was a direct affront to a shared cultural heritage. Das passionately declared that there must be a limit to such “jealousy,” lamenting that even the revered Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was not spared, his residence being attacked by “groups of hyenas.”
He further informed that protests were simultaneously unfolding at various Integrated Check Posts and across all districts of the state today, signalling that the agitation would be sustained and intensified, with demonstrations planned for June 16 in every assembly segment.
Through these protests, Das articulated a clear message: those who attacked the ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore are “mentally unstable.” He issued a fervent call for unity, urging everyone to speak out decisively against such actions, thereby compelling the perpetrators to reconsider before contemplating any repeat offences.
