BJP-RHJM Alliance Secures Majority in Rabha Hasong Council Polls, CM Sarma Hails ‘Saffron Wave’
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated the outcome of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, announcing that the BJP-led alliance has secured a decisive mandate. According to Sarma, the ruling BJP-Rabha Hasong Joutha Mancha (RHJM) coalition has won 33 out of 36 seats, ensuring continued governance in the region.
Taking to social media platform X, Sarma thanked voters for endorsing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda, especially for indigenous communities. “Another Saffron Wave in Assam! Our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council for speaking in unison and endorsing Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s welfare policies,” he wrote.
While CM Sarma’s post claimed that the NDA had bagged 33 seats, including 11 by RHJM candidates officially listed as Independents, the State Election Commission data available till 10 PM painted a more nuanced picture. According to official records, the BJP won three seats, while 11 were taken by Independent candidates — most of whom belong to RHJM, the BJP’s coalition partner.
Of the 36 seats, polling was conducted for 33, while three were declared uncontested — one going to BJP and two to Independent candidates. The Commission stated that the final tally is still being compiled and will be officially declared soon.
Nearly 69 per cent of the 4.46 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in the election held on Wednesday. The RHAC constituencies cover areas in both Kamrup and Goalpara districts. Despite the pending official declaration, the BJP-RHJM alliance appears set to retain control of the council, marking another political victory for the saffron party in Assam.
