BJP Set for Historic Victory in Delhi as AAP Faces Major Defeat
New Delhi – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on course for a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, marking a seismic political shift in the national capital after over 26 years.
With counting still underway, the latest trends from the Election Commission indicate that BJP is leading in 46 out of 70 seats, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) struggles behind with 24 seats.
Celebrating the overwhelming lead, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the *nation had made its choice clear, asserting, “India stands for nationalism, not Naxalism.”
Sarma’s statement reflects the sentiment among BJP leaders, who see this victory as a reaffirmation of their party’s governance model.
The BJP’s vote share at 12:52 PM stood at 46.90%, while AAP trailed at 43.24%, marking a significant shift in voter sentiment.
The party also clinched two seats outright and was leading in 45 others, cementing its dominance in the Delhi political landscape.
Several high-profile constituencies have delivered dramatic outcomes. In a shocking upset, BJP’s Parvesh Verma defeated Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, dealing a crushing blow to the AAP leader. Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, contesting from Jangpura, held a slim lead of 3,869 votes. AAP’s Atishi, a key party strategist, was trailing BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,231 votes in Kalkaji, while BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht in Mustafabad commanded a staggering lead of 40,598 votes, defeating AIMIM’s Tahir Hussain, who was accused in the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan was leading in Okhla by around 20,000 votes, ahead of AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman Khan, while BJP’s Kapil Mishra was ahead in Karawal Nagar by 23,352 votes.
With BJP heading toward a decisive mandate, party leaders have already begun celebrating the anticipated victory. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva confidently announced, “Delhi’s next Chief Minister will be from the BJP.” Senior BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri echoed the sentiment, stating, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi will progress alongside the rest of the country. AAP will be eliminated from the capital.”
Outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi, jubilant supporters waved saffron flags, danced to drumbeats, and threw saffron-colored powder into the air in a massive celebration. Meanwhile, AAP leaders have yet to issue a formal response, as they grapple with a crushing setback.
Political analysts suggest that corruption allegations, particularly the liquor policy scam, have seriously damaged Kejriwal’s image, a claim reinforced by social activist Anna Hazare, who recently criticized AAP’s leadership for abandoning its founding anti-corruption principles.
As the final numbers trickle in, it is evident that Delhi’s political landscape is set for a dramatic transformation, with the BJP poised to reclaim power in the capital for the first time since 1998.
