BJP Set to Return to Power in Delhi After 26 Years, Leads in 45 Seats
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to make a historic comeback in Delhi, with the latest Election Commission trends showing the saffron party leading in 45 out of 70 assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 21 constituencies.
As per the Election Commission (EC) website, both BJP and AAP have secured two seats each so far. The BJP’s vote share currently stands at 46.90%, while AAP is trailing at 43.24%.
Amid the high-stakes battle, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s former deputy, Manish Sisodia, has taken a lead of 3,869 votes in Jangpura after the fifth round of counting. However, in Kalkaji, AAP leader and sitting minister Atishi is trailing behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,231 votes.
“The people will give the BJP a decisive mandate. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi will progress alongside the rest of the country. I can confidently say that AAP will be eliminated from the national capital,” BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri declared.
Among BJP’s prominent leads, Mohan Singh Bisht is ahead by the highest margin of 40,598 votes in Mustafabad, where AIMIM had fielded northeast Delhi riots-accused Tahir Hussain. In Karawal Nagar, BJP’s Kapil Mishra is leading by 23,352 votes, while Tilak Ram Gupta is ahead in Tri Nagar with a margin of 8,557 votes.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan is leading by 9,518 votes in Okhla, while Gopal Rai has a strong margin of 25,105 votes in Babarpur. Other AAP candidates, including Durgesh Pathak (Rajinder Nagar), Anjana Parcha (Trilokpuri), and Veer Singh Dhingan (Seemapuri), are also ahead in their respective constituencies.
With trends favoring the BJP, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed confidence in forming the next government. “The results so far are in line with our expectations, but we will wait for the final outcome,” he told reporters after offering prayers at Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place.
As counting progresses, BJP supporters have already begun celebrations outside the party headquarters, waving lotus cutouts, dancing to ‘dhol’ beats, and smearing saffron-colored powder in anticipation of their long-awaited return to power in the national capital.
