BJP Sikkim Mahila Morcha Advocates for Women and Children’s Welfare

Northeast Desk, 8th January: The BJP Sikkim Mahila Morcha, led by General Secretary Smt. Srijana Thapa Chettri, visited the Women and Child Development Department in Tadong, expressing concerns over observed shortcomings at Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centres across the state.

During the visit, Morcha functionaries submitted a memorandum to Secretary Smt. Nirmit Lepcha, outlining critical issues such as inadequate distribution of essential nutrients, delays in maternity allowance disbursement, and the lack of proper toilet facilities and drinking water supply at ICDS Centres.

In a formal letter, the Mahila Morcha emphasized the urgent need for rectifying these issues, acknowledging the Central Government’s efforts for women and children’s welfare. General Secretary Smt. Srijana Chettri highlighted the severe shortage of nutritional materials, inadequate water supply and sanitary toilets, delays in maternity allowance disbursement, and insufficient essential medicines at the grassroots level.

The Morcha urged proactive intervention to ensure ICDS Centres have sufficient nutritional materials, proper water supply, clean toilets, timely maternity allowances, and essential medicines. They emphasized that addressing these concerns is crucial for the overall well-being and safety of women and children in Sikkim.
