BJP Sweeps Sivasagar Panchayat Polls, Ally AGP Secures Final Seat

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a resounding victory in the Sivasagar district Panchayat elections, capturing 11 out of the 12 Zila Parishad seats. The solitary remaining seat was claimed by their National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), solidifying the alliance’s dominance in the region. Although the official results are pending, jubilation is already palpable within the BJP camp.

A particularly noteworthy outcome is the BJP’s complete sweep of all Zila Parishad seats within the Sivasagar assembly constituency, an area currently represented by the Raijor Dal. This triumph has significantly bolstered the BJP’s confidence. Former MLA and BJP leader Kushal Duwari, in his reaction to the results, attributed the party’s success to the public’s unwavering faith in the government’s developmental policies.

“The public’s positive response to the government’s welfare initiatives has driven them towards the BJP,” asserted Duwari. He also took a swipe at the incumbent Raijor Dal MLA, suggesting that the electorate of Sivasagar rejects arrogance and hollow promises. “While the voters demonstrated a wave of support for the Congress during the recent Lok Sabha election, the results of this Panchayat election clearly indicate a shift in their perspective,” he added.

Addressing the BJP’s gains in areas with significant minority populations, Duwari emphasized that the Congress party had historically misled these communities with deceptive assurances. “However, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, development programs have been implemented across all sections of society, irrespective of caste or creed,” he stated.
