BJP sweeps Tripura Civic polls, wins all seats in AMC

Guwahati: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept all 51 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and several other urban local bodies in Tripura’s municipal body elections.

Khowai (8 seats), Kumuraghat (15 seats), Amarpur (13 seats), Dharamnagar (24 seats), Teliamura (15 seats), Jirania (11 seats), Melaghar (13 seats), Sonamura (13 seats), Belonia (17 seats), Sabroom (9 seats), and AMC all voted for the BJP (51 seats).

The saffron party ran candidates for all 334 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal bodies, and six Nagar Panchayats in the state, winning 112 of them unopposed.

For a total of 222 wards, 785 candidates filed candidacy papers. The BJP gained 217 seats, while the CPI (M) came in third with three seats, followed by the TMC and TIPRA Motha (each bagging just 1 seat).

It may be mentioned that the BJP party won 329 seats out of 334 seats in the election.

Congratulating the Tripura CM, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted, “A huge congratulations to Hon’ble Tripura CM Shri @BjpBiplab & @BJP4Tripura for the party’s clean sweep of the civic body polls, winning 217 out of the total 222 seats. It’s another testimony to popular support for the visionary leadership of Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji.”
