BJP Unveils Ambitious Rural Development Manifesto Ahead of Assam Panchayat Polls
Guwahati: In anticipation of the upcoming Panchayat elections, the Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today released its election manifesto, dubbed the Sankalp Patra, outlining fifteen pivotal resolutions geared towards comprehensive rural development across the state.
The manifesto, a collaborative effort spearheaded by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, with significant input from Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Member of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and other prominent party members, sets forth a strategic plan to revolutionize Assam’s rural economy and local governance.
Drawing inspiration from the philosophies of national figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and the modern visions of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi, the BJP’s blueprint pledges to materialize the concepts of Gram Swaraj and Antyodaya within Assam’s rural communities.
The BJP’s Sankalp Patra delivers a sharp critique of the Congress party, accusing it of failing to establish genuine rural self-governance during its 55-year tenure and alleging that it fostered a culture of centralized corruption. In stark contrast, the BJP presents itself as the driving force behind decentralized growth and empowerment.
Highlighting the accomplishments of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government since 2014, the manifesto underscores significant rural advancements, particularly Assam’s integration into regional and national development frameworks through the Look East and Act East policies. It attributes the enhanced stability and development opportunities to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, especially citing the successful peace accords with insurgent groups.
The manifesto further credits the BJP’s state government, which first assumed office under Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in 2016, with ushering in a “new dawn” for Assam. It details transformative initiatives like the Orunodoi Scheme, Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, support for women’s self-help groups, and the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan, all aimed at empowering youth entrepreneurs.
Key social welfare programs, including the Kushal Konwar Briddha Pension Scheme, Atal Amrit Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, and the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, are emphasized as pivotal achievements that have fueled grassroots prosperity.
With a focus on the future, the Assam BJP frames its 2025 Panchayat Election manifesto as a continuation of its unwavering commitment to transforming Assam’s rural regions into a paradigm of sustainable development.
