BJP’s Manik Saha to Take Oath as Tripura CM Today
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Manik Saha on Wednesday will take the oath of office as Chief Minister of Tripura.
He will hold the position of state chief minister for a second term in a row.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leader JP Nadda will all be present for the swearing-in ceremony.
Yesterday, Conrad Sangma and Neiphiu Rio were sworn-in as the Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Nagaland respectively.
It should be noted that the BJP won 32 seats with a vote share of almost 39%. Tipra Motha Party garnered 13 seats, placing second. Congress won three seats, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) received 11 seats. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) was able to establish itself by obtaining one seat.
The CPI(M) and the Congress, arch rivals in Kerala, came together in the Northeast this time in a bid to oust the BJP from power. CPI(M) and Congress continued to hold a combined 33% of the vote.
Chief Minister Saha defeated Asish Kumar Saha of the Congress in the Town Bordowali seat by a margin of 1,257 votes. The majority threshold in the 60-member Tripura assembly is 31.
The Left Front, which had ruled Tripura for 35 years from 1978 and had never won a single seat there before the 2018 election, was overthrown by the BJP, who had never done so before, in an alliance with the IPFT.
