Black Cat Division Honours Kargil Heroes in Eastern Sikkim
Sherathang, Sikkim: The Indian Army’s formidable Black Cat Division marked Kargil Vijay Diwas with profound solemnity and patriotic zeal across the forward areas of Eastern Sikkim on July 26. The day, etched in India’s history, commemorates the victorious culmination of the 1999 Kargil War and stands as a poignant tribute to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice safeguarding the nation’s integrity.
In a deeply moving ceremony, wreaths were reverently laid at the Sherathang War Memorial and the iconic Natu La Pass, perched at a staggering altitude of 14,100 feet. Army personnel, with dignified resolve, offered their respects to the Kargil martyrs, their silent salute a powerful reminder of the ultimate sacrifice rendered by these brave souls against enemy aggression during the conflict.
Beyond the formal tributes, the Black Cat Division extended its outreach, fostering stronger bonds with local communities and igniting a flame of national pride. In a unique initiative blending patriotism with environmental stewardship, tree plantation drives were organised along Sikkim’s high-altitude frontiers. Soldiers and students enthusiastically participated, planting saplings that symbolise not just growth and peace but also a living remembrance of the sacrifices made.
Furthering their commitment to the future, the Division conducted impactful school awareness programmes across the region. These initiatives aimed to instil a robust sense of nationalism and a deep appreciation for the armed forces among the younger generation. The spirit of patriotism truly blossomed during drawing competitions held at both Natu La and nearby local schools. Young artists passionately translated their love for the nation onto paper, with many depictions showcasing Indian soldiers standing resolute amidst the majestic Himalayas, embodying the very essence of unity, courage, and environmental consciousness.
