Boat Capsizes in Congo, 27 Dead and Over 70 Missing

International Desk, 15th October: A tragic incident occurred in Congo’s northwest when a boat capsized in the city of Mbandaka, resulting in the loss of at least 27 lives. More than 70 people are still missing, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

The boat was locally manufactured and was carrying over 100 passengers along the Congo River to Bolomba town. Different sources report varying casualty figures, with the New Civil Society of Congo stating that 49 people lost their lives due to engine failure.
