Bodies of Three Women Found Near Assam-Manipur Border

The bodies of three women were discovered near the Assam-Manipur border by Assam Rifles personnel, sparking concerns over their possible connection to the recent abduction of six people, including three women and three minors, from Manipur’s Jiribam district. The missing individuals were allegedly kidnapped by militants during a retreat following a failed attack on the Borobekra police station on November 11.

The bodies have been handed over to Assam Police and transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Officials are awaiting reports to confirm their identities. “We cannot confirm the identities until the post-mortem report is available,” stated Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta in a statement to media.

An Assam Rifles spokesperson also acknowledged the discovery, emphasizing that further information would depend on police investigations and identification procedures.

The abduction occurred in the aftermath of a violent confrontation between militants and security forces in the Borobekra area. While security forces thwarted the attack, killing 11 insurgents, the militants allegedly kidnapped six individuals—three women and three minors of the Meitei community—from a relief camp near the police station.

A large-scale search operation has been underway to locate the missing persons, raising hopes of their safe return. However, the discovery of the three bodies has intensified fears about their fate.

Local authorities and community leaders have condemned the incident and urged security forces to expedite their efforts to rescue the remaining abductees and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.
