Bodo Peace Accord Brings Stability to Assam, Says ABSU President Dipen Boro

Guwahati— Dipen Boro, President of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), on Saturday hailed the successful implementation of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, crediting it for establishing long-term peace and fostering development in the Bodoland region over the past five years.

Speaking to ANI, Boro highlighted that the historic accord led to the complete disarmament of militant groups and their integration into mainstream society. “Peace came after the accord. All groups laid down arms. The Centre has fulfilled its key promises within five years,” he said, adding that while some provisions remain pending, the Prime Minister and Home Minister have assured time-bound implementation.

The tripartite Bodo Accord, signed on January 27, 2020, between the Centre, Assam Government, and factions of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), was the culmination of a decades-long struggle for a separate Bodoland state, which had claimed hundreds of lives.

Boro stressed that this third accord marked a definitive shift from violence to development, succeeding where the previous accords of 1993 and 2003 had faltered.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also acknowledged the significance of the 2020 accord during its fifth anniversary celebrations earlier this year. He stated that the Bodo region had now moved past conflict, with focus turning toward roads, education, and other infrastructure projects. He further reiterated the Centre’s plan to introduce the 125th Constitutional Amendment to ensure full implementation of the accord.

Boro concluded that the accord has not only restored peace but also opened new avenues for cultural and economic advancement in the region.
