Bodofa Upendranath Brahma’s 35th Death Anniversary Observed with Reverence
The 35th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, revered as the Father of the Bodos, was observed with great reverence across Assam and in New Delhi. The occasion marked a historic milestone in the national recognition of his legacy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a landmark tribute to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma by inaugurating the newly named “Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg” and unveiling a 9-foot-tall statue of the iconic Bodo leader in Kailash Colony, New Delhi. The renamed road serves as a powerful symbol of Brahma’s contributions to unity, identity, and the developmental aspirations of the Bodo people.
The commemorative event, organized by the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at the Bodoland Guest House in Kailash Colony, was attended by prominent leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, and ABSU President Dipen Boro. The day began with the ABSU flag being hoisted at half-mast in a solemn tribute, followed by floral offerings led by senior dignitaries.
A major observance was also held at Thulungapuri in Dotma, Kokrajhar, Bodofa’s resting place, jointly organized by the ABSU, the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust, and the Department of Culture, Government of Assam. Floral tributes were offered by Assam Cabinet Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Kalyan Chakravorty, and other community leaders.
Bodofa Upendranath Brahma is widely revered for his visionary leadership during the Bodoland movement, advocating Bodo rights and identity, and promoting peace and democratic values. The ceremonies celebrated his life and reinvigorated his message of unity, dignity, and inclusive development, which continues to inspire generations in Assam and beyond.
