Guwahati: The body of a 4-year-old child was recovered in a PWD colony close to a former high school field in the early hours of Friday morning in the Dibrugarh district of Assam.
According to reports, the body was found in a closed urinal, wrapped with a cloth.
A man went to the bathroom and then noticed the body. He then called the police.
The infant was taken from Malipatty in the city on January 30, according to the police.
Suraj Karmakar, a single person was arrested in connection with the investigation. Police said that Karmakar was apprehended as a result of CCTV footage showing him kidnapping the toddler.
“The accused was an alcoholic. We suspected that he murder the child and dumped his body in the abandoned place. We have started an investigation to know the modus operandi of the crime,” said Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra.
