Book on Bhupen Hazarika Launched by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in New Delhi

Guwahati: Sarod master Ustad Amjad Ali Khan introduced a book on famed singer Bhupen Hazarika, praising him as a genius and a representation of creativity.

The editors evaluated, clarified, and outlined Hazarika’s many perspectives in the first volume in an effort to highlight the work’s wider significance.

A greater emphasis has been placed on in-depth textual examination of Hazarika’s writings in this edition.

The editors claim that despite not being guided by any one critical doctrine, the current collection of essays on Hazarika’s music, politics, and cultural philosophy contains a diversity of interpretations that are based on modern concepts.

The book assembles a variety of publications about Hazarika at random: narratives written by individuals he met along the way in life; critical essays on his lyrical compositions, research, and sociopolitical activities; and a few autobiographies about his death or even a literary resurrection from dead.

Writings that were originally in Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, and Marathi have been translated and republished in English.

The writers continue by describing how Hazarika held up a mirror to life for his listeners through his music.

Khan praised Hazarika as an exceptionally knowledgeable person at the book’s debut at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Bhavan.

“It is extremely uncommon for a musician to also be a poet. In the past, a lot of artists were too busy practising to attend school or colleges. Bhupenda, however, was a rare exception. As a performer, composer, writer, and lyricist, he was a representation of creativity. He was a talented, dedicated, and well-rounded musician ” he said.

Khan added that with his songs, Hazarika made Assamese folk music more well-known.

Subhalakshmi Barooah, his wife and a well-known Bharatanatyam dancer, reported a number of incidents involving Hazarika.

Utpal Borpujari, a national award-winning director and film critic, emphasised the importance of translating more of Hazarika’s works.

Mrinal Sarma of Chitrachal, Guwahati, is the author and publisher of the book.
