Border MoU Between Assam-Arunachal Likely to be Signed Soon
Guwahati: Border discussions between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh came to a fruitful conclusion on April 17. Chief ministers from both states and representatives from the 12 Assam Regional Committees which were established in accordance with the Namsai Declaration on Assam participated in the meetings.
The subsequent border disputes will soon be resolved, according to Assam Minister Atul Bora who took part in the debate and the historic boundary MoU between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh would probably be signed on April 20. Before signing the MoU, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu would also be given a copy of the draught.
Representatives from the two states resolved to hold the next meeting in May in Guwahati’s Khanapara where a discussion will be held to address disagreements in six areas.
Assam Chief Minister claimed on the microblogging website Twitter that the draught agreement between the two states which is about to be signed was carefully thought through.
”HCM Dr @himantabiswa chaired a meeting today with members of all 12 Assam Regional Committees formed under the Namsai Declaration on Assam – Arunachal Pradesh Boundary Issues. The soon to be signed draft agreement, between the two states, was deliberated in detail,” he tweeted.
Assam government established regional committees to discuss boundary disputes with Arunachal Pradesh and in this regard, multiple rounds of discussions between the regional committees have recently taken place.
