Border Security Tightens: Two More Bangladeshi Nationals Deported from Assam

Guwahati: Assam’s ongoing campaign against illegal infiltration saw the deportation of two Bangladeshi nationals, Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar, on the evening of March 17th. The individuals were apprehended by Sribhumi police while conducting routine border patrols, and subsequently returned to Bangladesh.

The successful operation drew praise from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who acknowledged the police’s diligence via a post on X. He emphasized the state’s unwavering commitment to curbing illegal cross-border movement, stating, “Stern action against illegal infiltration. Continuing with their strict vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @sribhumipolice intercepted 2 Bangladeshi nationals and pushed them back. Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar. This strict monitoring by @assampolice will continue. Good job.”

This latest deportation follows a similar incident where four Bangladeshi nationals, Abdul Kabir, Bodhiur Rahman, Md Tayub, and Abdul Kalam, were arrested and deported by Assam police. Chief Minister Sarma had publicly acknowledged that operation through his X handle as well, highlighting the sustained effort to secure the border. “4 illegal infiltrators held and deported… Continuing with their efforts to combat infiltration, @assampolice apprehended 4 Bangladeshi nationals and pushed them back across the border. Great work team!” he wrote.

The Chief Minister’s statements underscore the state government’s resolute stance against illegal immigration. He had previously disclosed that, over the preceding seven months, a total of 305 infiltrators had been apprehended and repatriated to Bangladesh. He reiterated the state’s dedication to achieving an “infiltration-free Assam,” signaling a continued and intensified focus on border security.
