Boxer Lovlina brings home Olympics Bronze
Guwahati: Assam’s Boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Wednesday got the bronze medal in the Women’s Welterweight category at the Tokyo Olympics.
Lovlina Borgohain who made it to the semi-finals lost to the reigning world champion from Turkey, Busenaz Surmeneli. Although, the boxer lost the chance to bring in the silver home she is the first Assamese to bring in an Olympics medal home. It was her first Olympic event as well.
Apart from being the first Assamese to bring in an Olympics medal, she has also succeeded in becoming the third Indian to ensure the podium finish in the Olympics. The two other persons to be on the podium was Vijender Singh in 2008 and MC Mary Kom in 2012.
Lovlina Borgohain is a 23-year-old boxer from Assam’s Golaghat district.
