BPF, UPPL, BJP Fail to Cross Halfway Mark, Coalition Rule Likely: BTC Election results
Results for the 40-member Assam Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections have been declared with Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) winning 17 seats, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) bagging 12 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 9 seats and the Congress party managed to win one seat.
In the BTC polls in Assam, which have been dubbed as the semifinal ahead of the Assembly polls in the state next year, the ruling BJP and BTC’s two main contenders BPF and UPPL, could not secure the magic figures of 21 and cross the half-way mark.
The BTC election is considered as a semifinal before the 126-member Assam Assembly goes to the polls in March-April next year.
The tribal council polls were the first election in Assam since the Covid-19 pandemic started and the entire process of balloting was conducted maintaining all safety protocols.
