Guwahati: A broker was arrested on suspicion of giving a driver’s licence in return for cash in Dhubri district of Assam on Tuesday.
The broker has been identified as Rony.
According to reports, Rony used to demand payment from licence applicants before the District Transport Offices of Dhubri would issue them a permit.
The locals nabbed Rony and handed him over to the police.
One of the applier said, “I have him a sum amount of Rs. 13,000 before Covid-19 in 2020, but up till now I haven’t received the licence,”
The broker said that the police and staff of DTO were also party to a covert agreement with them.
The broker was arrested by Dhubri Police, who then escorted him to the police station.
The investigation into the matter is underway.
